When God Relieves Some of the Pressure
Three days ago, I left early and drove to Burns Park. It used to be my go-to place for daily exercise, and where I could think and talk out book ideas and life frustrations, all while staying active.
Now, I only ever go there to think. And to cry. Because life has been an unkind hand lately, shoving me in the back toward a metaphorical cliff.
But on the way to the park, God blessed me with an unmistakable sign.

His redeeming grace and mercy. A sign of hope. A message that thousands of commuters heading to work that morning could hold close to their hearts in whatever trials they were facing.
I sure appreciated it. I sure needed it.
After the rainbow, the gray sky folded back over the brilliant blue, and rain, one of my favorite things, fell from the clouds gently and purposefully as if God had wrapped His arms around me with every droplet. He knows what stirs my heart, what gives me breath when I can’t breathe.
Rain.
The scent in the air before it reaches me. The pattering on leaves, rooftops, and in creek beds. The coolness on my face when I close my eyes and look to the heavens. The child it brings out of me whenever I pass by a puddle.
He knows what gives me breath.
