You don’t have to look far to see the many blessings from God all around you. The breath in our lungs, the ability to feel with our hands and skin, to smell rain, flowers, and fresh-cut wood. The ability to express ourselves, to hear birds singing, the purr of a kitten, and rumbles of thunder in the distance. A stunning view that takes your breath away. Blessings are everywhere, and we enjoy and take advantage of them every day of our lives. There are so many, and they are so unfailing that we sometimes forget they’re even there. We get used to them; somehow, they go from a blessing to just part of the scenery. We realize what we once had and might have taken for granted only when we lose it.
He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.
Deuteronomy 10:21
A kind stranger who helped at just the right time is a blessing; an unexpected salary raise or hefty tip at work, rain after a dry spell. A kind-hearted person is a blessing in a world sickened with bitterness, anger, and hatred. A blessing is a shoulder to lean on and an ear to borrow, a cool breeze on a sweltering summer day, a gift from a friend, a healthy medical report, the food in your kitchen, fresh water from your faucets, electricity in your home; children are both blessings and miracles—the list is endless!
Blessings are gifts from God bestowed upon us that are not out of the realm of probability; they work through the natural order of things. Miracles, however, supersede the natural order and happen outside the realm of possibility, most often in crises. Much like Science cannot disprove God, miracles prove God’s existence and authority because they are supernatural in nature and defy nature’s laws.
