This is just a quick side-note post to help anyone out who may end up in the predicament I was in yesterday after upgrading my iPhone software. Seems I wasn’t the only user by far to have encountered this same problem, but worst of all, NOT ONE thread anywhere that I read while trying to find a solution, had a solution. Thankfully, I fixed mine BY ACCIDENT! So here’s the gist of it:
1. After successfully downloading the new version 5 and then your iPhone reboots and restores itself and all that stuff, you might get the following error right at the very end of your phone restore (just when you think everything was going to finish without any issues!):
2. ‘An unknown error has occurred (-1)’ or some other variation of this.
3. You will then get a message (if you leave your phone plugged to your computer) prompting you to choose from the following: CANCEL, RESTORE BACKUP, DELETE BACKUP.
4. First go ahead and try to RESTORE BACKUP a few more times.
5. If that doesn’t work and you keep getting the same error message, do the following:
6. Choose CANCEL and let the phone completely boot up and start to prompt you to set up your ‘new’ iPhone.
7. FROM THE PHONE ITSELF, you can then choose to RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
Seems like while trying to do this on my computer, it was a never-ending error loop, but when doing it only from the phone itself, it worked just fine.
